PM should deport naked tourist says CLC
The Central Land Council says the recent strip show on Uluru by a French tourist reinforces the case to close the climb and the new Prime Minister Julia Gillard should deport the tourist immediately.
CLC Director David Ross said the tourist’s stupidity was indicative of many people who chose to ignore the traditional owners request to not climb the rock.
Mr Ross questioned the woman’s mental state and suggested that regulations should be brought in which made this type of behaviour an offence.
“The traditional owners will be greatly saddened and many other Australians will be extremely upset at this arrogant show of disrespect,” Mr Ross said.
“Luckily most people - 62 per cent of visitors - have the decency and common sense to respect traditional owners wishes but there are still too many people who insist that it is their right to climb Uluru,” Mr Ross said.
“It is not.
“It is dangerous, it is offensive and it is wearing a visible scar on the face of a place sacred to its Aboriginal traditional owners,” he said.
“Too often Uluru is used as a place for individuals to pursue some questionable ‘personal development’ activities at the expense of Aboriginal law and culture.
