CLC Governance Report 2010 (Shires Scoping Study)

The Governance Role of Local Boards: A Scoping Study of Six Communities

Local government reform was implemented in 2008 across the Northern Territory (NT). As a part of this, shire councils were elected across 8 shires providing regional/ward representation.

In October to December 2009, the CLC initiated research to gather perspectives and experiences from the community residents on their understandings of the legitimacy, role and functioning of the local boards.

The research was intended to inform the CLC of the role and work of local boards in relation to broader community governance issues.
